Easy to Read, Clear Mapping

New, modern colouring helps users  easily identify selected routes and tracks. Local link roads and local narrow roads are shown in different colours.  This makes it easy to choose the safest way to get to sites that are not on the main national and regional routes and off the beaten track. A large scale is used but private housing, and administrative buildings are not shown which reduces clutter and unnecessary detail.

Waterproof and Tearproof Paper

Xploreit Maps are printed on a special synthetic paper called Polyart. Polyart paper is both waterproof and tearproof making the map very durable and especially suitable for walkers and cyclists.

Scenic Drives, Cycleways and Walks

In addition to the national scenic routes, our maps show which local narrower roads have scenic views.  Cycle routes are shown with a dashed purple line and bike symbol. Waymarked walks are shown using a dashed pink line and walker symbol. The National Waymarked trails are easy to follow since they are signposted along the way by means of black posts with yellow direction arrows. It is quite possible for anyone to pick just a short section to walk for an hour or two.

Detailed Index

It is not easy to find local maps that are indexed. Tourists will find the index very useful when identifying the locations they want to visit.

Special Highlighting of Tourist Attractions and Facilities

Important heritage sites, museums and other points of interest are highlighted in red while less well known sites and ruins are shown in brown. There is a varied selection of antiquities and sites including castles, round towers, churches, cathedrals, monastic sites, historic wells, megalithic tombs, ring forts and battle sites. Tourist information centres and facilities such as campsites and caravan parks are also shown.

Local Mountains, Rivers, Lakes and Coastline

Local mountains, hills, rivers and lakes are shown. Height contours are shown at 16 regular intervals between 30 and 915 metres (100 and 3000 feet). Coastlines are shown with general information on water features, cliffs, beaches and lighthouses

A GPS compatible grid with latitude and longitude lines at 5' or 10' intervals is provided.  The 10km intervals of the national grid are shown in the margins for additional reference.

Activities

The locations for many leisure activities are also shown. These include boating and fishing spots, picnic locations, equestrian centres and golf courses. Popular beaches for swimming, surfing spots, forests and parks, nature reserves and special habitats are all identified.
